Net zero is a scientific concept which has been extrapolated into the economic realm. So both sides of that argumaent are blatantly wrong for misinterpreting the context of net zero.

Net Zero was and never will be cheap but done properly it could at least help keep the lights on in the face of economic dislocation like we are seeing currently. Done properly needed CEGB MkII. They would have planned generation and transmission together such that we aren't wasting 10's TWh of renewable energy from inadequate grid connections every year and increasing let alone the extra CO2 being spewed out by CCGTs because they are being run inefficiently now.
